Iowa & Nebraska

Hello everyone, we made it to Iowa the state of many corn fields. We had planned to find a cool boondocking spot and explore Iowa for a week but unfortunately there was a heat wave and it was brutally hot. We ended up staying at a small campground that had hookups, hot showers and a nice playground right by a river. As soon as we arrived Landon and I headed to the playground while my parents got everything livable and made dinner.

The next day I got up early, did school, read the Bible, did the dishes, then we walked down to the river because it was SO hot! Unfortunately when we arrived to the water we realized it was stagnant water and decided it wasn’t a good idea to go in. Blue didn’t care and went straight in unknowing that it was going to be a drop off and deep. He was stuck and unable to get back up so my dad had to jump in the nasty water and help lift him out. Luckily both of them were fine just a little stinky. Our river idea was a bust so we headed back, gave Blue a bath and all took nice showers. My parents were researching and trying to find things to do but basically the only things around were corn fields so we decided to only stay two nights and make our way to Nebraska.

We got back on the road and headed to another campground because the heat wave was still going strong. This spot was a city park that had hookups, a dump and right next to a waterpark that had showers. To our surprise the waterpark had sadly already closed for season. As soon as we arrived Landon and I of course went to the playground while my parents got stuck getting everything situated and making dinner. Right as we got to the playground Landon decided to attempt the monkey bars on his own. I tried to tell him to wait for me to get over and help him but he wanted to be Mr. Independent and fell straight to the ground… Maybe he’ll learn to listen to me next time. That pretty much ended our evening at the park, I took him to my mom to comfort him then we ate dinner and headed to bed.

Down the street from where we were staying was a fun place called Edgerton Explorit Center, we spent hours there. It was really cool, they had all kinds of science activities and interactive simulators. There were two young boys wanting help building this crane out of wood. It was shockingly really hard to build and took us awhile but in the end it turned out awesome. Then two little girls came up to me and asked if I wanted to make bracelets with them so of course I did. We thoroughly explored and did pretty much every activity while we were there. Once back at the campground I wanted to skate since there was finally concrete so my parents walked Blue while I skated and Landon rode his bike.

Our last day there we had some errands to run, so my mom and I decided to make a day of it and left dad and Landon at the RV. First we went to the store to get ingredients for fall baking as our next spot would be up in the mountains and the most fall like we will get all year. Then we found a thrift store to check out and got a few goodies. While our laundry was washing we seen a Mexican restaurant across the street and had to try it out. Surprisingly it was very good authentic Mexican food. Once our laundry was done we headed back to the RV, made some dinner and prepared for another drive day. See you soon!

  1. Nebraska sounds more exciting. The decor of the Mexican restaurant makes it clear that the food must be amazing!
