Kentucky- Land Between The Lakes

Hello guys, we stayed at a dispersed camping area on Land Between the lakes and it sure was a beauty. Our spot was amazing, we were right on the lake with the most stunning views. They had a pit toilet, fire rings, picnic tables and great spot for solar.

While we were there it was my mom’s birthday week and all she wanted to do was spend as much time on the lake as possible. We did lots of paddle boarding, swimming, playing in the water, fishing and I even did a photo shoot for my moms birthday. I stayed up super late decorating so she could wake up to a fiesta. She opened all her gifts then she enjoyed her coffee by the water while my dad and I cooked breakfast for her. The way we usually celebrate my parents birthdays is by making all their favorite foods, drinks and not having them do any cooking or cleaning that day. Of course that meant we were having lots of fruits, Mexican foods and margaritas for my parents. My mom requested dessert before dinner and since it was her birthday we all agreed. I think overall it was a pretty good 35th birthday even if it was just the four of us celebrating.

We went to Hematite Lake so we could see the stepping stones with hopes of doing cool artsy photography. But to my surprise they were too small and I had been feeling uninspired to do my photography lately. But while we were there my brother decided he was going to run straight for the drop off and take a shocking dip. My mom and I went sprinting after slipping on the wet moss trying to save him because we had no idea how deep it was, and it almost looked like a dam so we were unsure if it would suck him under or what. Thankfully, it was only a few feet deep and he stood right up turned around, looked at us shocked and said “I didn’t know it was deep there”. We had to explain to him that when the color of the water changes it means the depth changes as well. After a near heart attack we finally started the hike around the lake. It was a short and easy stroll but still nice to get out in nature.

Just down the road from where we were staying was a bison sanctuary. We drove around almost the entire sanctuary looking but only seen two elk. Right before we made it to the end my mom said, they will be waiting right around the next corner for us. Sure enough we turned the corner to a whole heard of bison. We watched the babies nurse on their mamas, took some photos and enjoyed watching them roam.

We really loved the land between the lakes and would definitely go back again but next time we would rent a boat and go tubing for sure.
