Best Campground and Fun Things To Do in Kiptopeke – Virginia | Beach Days, Fishing, Campfires, Games & Family Fun at the State Park

This is the best state park campground in Kiptopeke, Virginia because it has so many fun things to do like hanging out on the beach, going fishing, paddleboarding, hiking trails, and enjoying all the awesome amenities included! The state park has clean bathrooms, hot and cold showers, electric hookups, a dump station, trash services, a playground, hiking trails, and even a pier to fish off of. Best of all, it’s only a one-minute walk to the beach!

The day we got to our spot, we set up camp and then hung out with our friends and family. My cousin Juliette and I went for a long walk to check out the state park’s campground. I had so much fun chatting with her during the short time we had away from the group. When we got back from our walk, we helped make charcuterie boards and yummy s’mores sundaes! Our friend’s aunt and grandma ended up joining us for dinner and hung out with us for an hour or two. They were super nice, and I’m really glad I got to meet them. I think we all enjoyed hanging out around the fire before they left. That night went super late because my parents and my aunt and uncle went into our friends’ trailer to play card games and have adult time. While they did that, us kids sat by the fire, chitchatting for hours and I very much enjoyed it.

The next morning, my friend Aubrey and I did trash duty before packing up a bunch of beach stuff. Once we grabbed lunches, beach toys, chairs, the umbrella, towels, beach games, and a huge speaker to play some jams, we “drove” to the beach (which was seriously less than a minute away, lol). After setting up the umbrella and speaker, we played a super fun game called KUBB I totally recommend getting it because it’s an amazing game to play anywhere and with tons of friends! After KUBB, Juliette and I made sandcastles with the little kids. After hours of swimming, beach games, building sandcastles, and tanning, we decided to walk over to the camp store. It was super close to the beach a smart idea since it was so hot out! The camp store had cheap but yummy ice cream. After we got our ice cream, us kids went for a long walk on the beach. We stopped by the pier and people-watched. It was surprisingly fun we even saw a few people catch fish! I was tempted to grab some fishing poles so us kids could catch something too, lol. When we got back from our walk, we packed up all the beach stuff and headed back to the trailers to take long, hot showers. To finish off the night, everyone walked over to the playground to let the little kids play before we all sat by the fire and chatted before bed.

The next morning, I finished up my school and chores before heading over to Ramona (aka my family’s Airstream) and made wire rings with Juliette. After hanging out around the trailers, we packed up lunches and went for a short hike to the beach. Some of us swam while others snacked on fresh watermelon in the sun! Honestly, I don’t understand how some people don’t like the beach. You get warm sunny days, swimming, tanning, eating yummy food, listening to music, and hanging out with friends and family it’s the best! I am 100% a beach lover. After hours at the beach, we went back to the trailers, made dinner and popcorn, and had a movie night. The adults watched a movie inside the trailer while us kids had our own movie outside by the fire. It was so cold out that night, so we all sat super close to the fire and had tons of blankets to snuggle with.

The last two days were slower. We walked along the beach, went to the playground, visited the campground shop, did trash runs, went on hikes, sat by the fire, rode bikes, had more beach days, watched movies, did easy meals, and played lots of board games, card games, and beach games. Juliette and I went for another long walk around the campground, stopped at the store for popsicles and energy drinks, and walked down to the beach to watch the waves. That might have been my favorite part of those two days.

It’s the little moments like sitting with friends and family, watching the waves that are my absolute favorite.
