Michigan- Traverse City

We made it to Traverse City area where we found the most perfect boondocking spot looking over a beautiful lake. The spot was great with a nice sandy beach to build sand castles, and you could walk out in the water for at least 20 feet before it got to knee height. We set up two of our hammocks where you could lay and look out at the stunning views. The first few days there we spent on the water paddle boarding, playing in the sand and swimming while my dad fished.

Our friends from back home happened to be in the area so we all met at Frankfort Pier for a beach day. They have six children so I had lots of fun hanging out with them. Us older kids spent most of the day jumping off the pier and swimming around. After hours at the lake we headed back to their place for dinner. We hung out there for hours, us kids ran around and hung out while the adults played card games.

The following day we went to Sleepy Bear sand dunes where we thought we were going to walk over a sand dune and hang on the beach, but to our surprise we were on the most strenuous hike in the park. Luckily we were well equipped with plenty of drinks, snacks and even lunch. Even though it was a difficult hike through the sand dunes it was definitely worth it when we reached the lake. The views were magnificent with the crystal blue water, it resembled the Caribbean.

Since we were in the area during Traverse City’s National Cherry Festival, of course we had to check it out! We had an amazing time checking out all the stands, but mostly spent our time in the kid’s zone making bracelets, bowling, playing jenga and chalk. We had to try some cherry lemon-aid and I got my usual turkey leg. Overall it was a great day and a cool experience to get to go to.

Our last day we went back over to our friend’s place to hangout one more time before we left. The men went out fishing while the women and children hung out at the house. My friend Faith’s aunt offered to take us shopping, so all us girls loaded up and went out on the town. We stayed entirely too late with having a drive day the next morning but thankfully our drive was less than 2 hours away.
