New Hampshire

We are staying in the White Mountain National forest along the Gale River for 12 days. Our spot is a nice grassy field in between all the woods and just a short walk to the river. It feels so nice to finally be in the woods again and fully unpack and set up our outdoor things.

Our first day we went for a short waterfall hike and I got a really cool photo of the falls. As we hiked we collected good fall leaves to use for art projects and cute decorations. After the hike we went to Mount Washington Cog Railway to explore the train exhibit. Right when we arrived the train was taking off up the mountain. It was really cool because it’s all ran by steam, so I could see them throwing coal into the fire to keep the train moving up the steep mountain. It blew the whistle and we heard it echo all through the Forest.

The following day we went to Diana’s Bath, it’s basically a fun little walk to an old sawmill that operated in the 1800’s but was abandoned and the US forest service turned it into a historical site. It has lots of cool waterfalls that all ran into pool like waterholes. We loved exploring the area and tried to get in the water but it was way too cold. As we were packing up we met a nice family who invited us to go to dinner with them. I had a lot of fun with the kids during dinner but my favorite was running around in the grass after dinner. It was getting late and we had about an hour drive home so we had to call it a night, sadly.

We had a lot of rainy days so we mostly spent them inside working on school and making art projects out of the leaves we collected. We made cute little hedgehogs and glued the leaves to look like their fur, we colored over the leaves on a paper to see the outlines, my moms turned out really cool, and we made lots of Landon’s handprints to make a wreath. On the days it wasn’t raining we headed to Kancamagus Historical Parkway to do more waterfall hikes and to check out the fall colors, but we were a little early. Our last night in the park we brought our dinner and found a nice spot to grill and watch the amazing sunset. On our way home we stopped in town for some delicious dessert. We got a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream, chocolate and caramel drizzle. We gobbled it up in seconds then it was time to make our journey home.

We enjoyed our time in New Hampshire but we’re looking forward to getting back to Vermont for all the fall festivities and colors. See you in my next blog!
