We stayed at a really cool national park in Cape Cod right on Racepoint beach for 9 days. Originally we planned to be camped on the beach, however the Piping Plover were nesting so they closed the beach to vehicles and we had to camp in the parking lot. Even though the parking lot was not what we had hoped for it turned out really great. The walk down to the water only took about a minute so we ended up at the beach pretty much every day and each night we had a perfect view of the sunset. It’s one of the only places on the east coast where you can sit on the beach and watch the sun set in the west and rise to the east (take a look at at the tip of cap cod on a map to see what I’m talking about).

Our first day was mostly just a rest day. We got settled, did school work and in the evening went to the beach to watch the sunset. The following day we spent the whole day at the beach. The weather was perfect and sunny. I made a shark sculpture out of sand and named him Gus and my mom made a sea turtle. Surprisingly our sculptures held up almost our whole stay and everyone kept complimenting them.

While we were there the National park had a family fish day. We all met at the visitors center to learn about the history of fishing in the cape. Afterwards we drove back to where we were camped and the RV next to us was all set up with snacks, drinks and fishing supplies. They walked us down to the ocean and showed us how to cast from the shore. It was so much fun fishing in the ocean but sadly no one caught anything.

We spent a few days in town exploring, the people were very interesting. We came during pride week so it was a little extra colorful. I loved all the cute old building and cottage style houses and of course all the dogs. We made sure to go to the pier when the commercial fisherman boats came in and watched their production. One worker gave us a sea clam so of course my mom turned it into a homeschool lesson.

We had a great time in Cape Code, it was so beautiful and I loved watching the sunsets. Stay tuned for my next blog where my grandma and papa come visit us in Maine!
