Mississippi

Hi guys, we’re in Mississippi. It is very pretty here and there is lots of scenery. It’s very green and mossy with lots of fungus and mushrooms. There is wildflowers and clovers. We had planned to camp in the woods but ended up checking into Wall Doxey State Park campground because we were under tornado watch and my mom was feeling unsteady. My dad picked the campground that had a block bathroom Just in case we had to take shelter. We always say, rather be safe than sorry! We stayed for two nights to wait the storms out. Luckily we only got the outskirts so it barley hit us.

When the rain stopped and the wind died down me and my brother went to the playground to play. There is a swampy lake right by the playground we walked over to and explored. The day we were leaving the campground the wind really picked up, some branches broke off the trees above us and HIT the RV roof and made a couple of holes. One stick even stuck straight into our roof so now we need to get it repaired. It was so scary sitting in the RV because the wind kept knocking pine cones off the trees and would land on the RV with a loud THUD! Definitely don’t recommend going out in the storm because you would most likely get knocked out by the pine cones lol.

After leaving the campground we went back to the spot we originally found in the forest. There was so much mud from all the rain and the river was overflowing. One night people came and camped next to us with three boys. They weren’t my age but I didn’t care, It’s better than no kids right? We all played together the whole day in the creek and played tag. The day flew by like flying colors and sadly they only camped for one night.

The next day we did a day trip up to Memphis Tennessee. My parents really wanted us to fully experience the South so we went to this Soul Food restaurant called The Four Way. It was the most delicious food I’ve ever tasted. I ordered the catfish sandwich and boiled okra. My mom got the fried chicken with fried green tomatoes and buttered corn. My dad got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and Mac & Cheese and my little brother just ate a side of fries. For dessert we shared a peach cobbler. Oh and I almost forgot we all got some southern sweet tea. It was very very very! Sweet. I personally have never had anything so sweet in my life but apparently that’s how people in the south prefer their tea. Well Back to the point, Memphis was so fun, there were so many colorful lights and street performers. They did flips over like five or six people at once. It was insane! There was so many bands playing in all the restaurants/bars. Before heading back home we ended the evening with some ice cream. They make ice cream sandwiches with warm cookies straight from the oven. Unfortunately I forgot to bring my camera so I didn’t get pictures.

While driving on the dirt road by where we were camped there was a man broken down on the side of the road with his quad. My dad asked if he needed help and we ended up giving him a ride back to his house. While he was riding with us he offered us to come to his farm to see the animals, ride the horses and get fresh water. He told us he had baby goats that we could pet and hold if we wanted. I was literally jumping off the walls with excitement. I love horse and he was going to let me ride AND let me pet baby goats! We were busy at the moment but told him maybe Sunday we could come by. Sunday afternoon he rode his side by side over to where we were camped to see if we still wanted to come by. When we pulled up to his farm we could see a heard of horses, cows and goats. Stacy was already in the pasture waiting for us. When we first approached the goats they were a little scared but after a bit they loved us. The mama goat had triplets and they were so adorable. Any time the mamma goat would come near the baby goats would run to nurse, it was like a war between them. It looked like it hurt the mom but the owner, Stacy said they are just trying to get the milk to let down by stimulating and didn’t hurt at all. After we spent some time talking and playing with the goats, Stacy asked if I would like to ride the horses. Of course I said i would love to. It was so fun and my mom got lots of pictures. I hadn’t rode in such a long time, it reminded me how much I love riding. The horses name was Lady but I don’t think she was acting like a lady because she kept farting haha. When we were all done with the animals, Stacy offered us to fill our water jugs with his fresh well water before we went off. Dad said we would love some as his well water is much better than the city water we had.

It was so fun in Mississippi, Today we are back on the road and heading to Tennessee.

Hope you enjoyed reading about my time in Mississippi and the photos I captured.

  3. Great story! That was cool that the guy had you come to his house. There are still a lot of kind people in the world and he was thankful that your dad stopped to help him.
